"Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then do it." -- Robert A. Heinlein in The Notebooks of Lazarus Long |

One day I was browsing the music selection available on mp3.com when I ran across
an artist that has become one of my all-time favorites. I've always been a big fan
of soulful female vocals found in such artists as Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crow,
the Indigo Girls, and the like. Kathy Fisher, the artist I discovered on mp3.com
embodies the ultimate soulful female vocal to me. One great description of Fisher's
voice was "It's like a hot rock wrapped in velvet." What can I say? I'm a fan.It began with the song I Will Love You. At least, it did for me. Some say that Fisher's true break came with the song Breakable which appeared on the soundtrack of "Great Expectations". She released her first full length CD titled "One" in early 1999 which led eventually to her signing up with Interscope records in early 2000. But that's the short version. Fisher's is probably the first success story of an artist emerging from the Internet. The ballad I Will Love You was originally written for the movie Message In A Bottle, but was eventually rejected for being "too sad." After repeated attempts to get signed with a record label, and repeated rejections from said labels, Kathy Fisher and Ron Wasserman (her partner in music) decided to market their music over the internet. It is not surprising, really, that this worked. What is surprising, perhaps, is that it worked so well. Several million Fisher downloads later (most of them through MP3.com), Fisher was signed with Interscope records. Her music has captured the hearts of many listeners world wide. One anecdote from a San Diego radio station STAR 100.7 tells of a DJ that downloaded I Will Love You and played it during "drive time". They said, "People were pulling off the road and calling up on their cell phones crying and saying, 'This is perfect for my wedding,' or 'My father just died, this reminds me of him.'" I encourage you to listen to Fisher's music. I've found her music and lyrics to be very powerful. Her voice is beautiful. And she's a babe. |
