This weekend I cracked open the doppelbock for tasting. Our neighbor had some friends over, one of whom expressed interest in my brewing activities, so she asked if I’d bring some of my homebrew over. I told her that I had some freshly kegged homebrew, and if her friend was willing to take a chance on it, I’d bring it right over. She was, and I did.
I am just tickled at how well the doppelbock came out. It’s really very good. It is malty, very slightly tart (no doubt from the wheat), and ever so slightly fruity. There’s a yeasty quality to it too, that I hope does not fade. There’s no hint of its alcohol level in the taste, but this is deceptive.
All in all, it’s a superb beer, and I was very proud to be able to share it.
